12 Baby Shower Game Ideas

Hello Beauties,

Baby showers are awesome for getting friends and family together in celebration of welcoming a new life into the world. Guests not only shower the mommy-to-be with gifts for baby, but they also use this time to socialize and share tips and tricks on how to manage a new born. Most importantly, baby showers are all about having fun and a few good laughs over games. It’s a great way to get mommy-to-be to unwind, get her mind off of the stresses of pregnancy, and just relax… even if just for a day.

Now a days most baby showers are co-ed. Mine was co-ed, and I think it made the celebration that much more special. I enjoyed all of the games played at my baby shower, even though we didn’t get to all of them! None the less, I had a great time and enjoyed everything we did get to that day.

Here’s a selection of baby shower games that are sure to be a hit! Make them unique to your crowd.

  1. Guess Baby’s Birthday: Guests choose a date and sign their name on a calendar of their prediction of baby’s due date. The winner is announced when the baby is born.
  2. Can’t Say Baby: All guests receive 2 clothes pins upon entering the baby shower. They cannot say “Baby” the entire shower. If caught, another guests may steal 1 of the offender’s clothes pin. The contestant with the most pins at the end of the shower wins. (If the offending contestant has multiple pins they only lose 1 pin, for every time they say “baby.”)
  3. Ice Ice Baby/My Water Broke: This one is fun for kids. Kid contestants are each given an ice cube with a small plastic baby inside. The fastest kid to melt their ice by rubbing their hands together wins.
  4. Dirty Diaper: Melt 5-10 chocolate candy bars in their own diaper. Be sure to number each diaper, and have an answer sheet for the host to reveal at the end. Have guests either pass the diapers around or leave them stationary where guests can decipher and guess the candy bar brand in each diaper. The person who guesses all/most correctly wins. TIP: If you’re like me and don’t want to waste real diapers, you can fold napkins in the shape of a diapers instead!
  5. Baby’s First Portrait: 5-10 contestants get an index card and marker. With 60 seconds on the clock, each contestant holds the index card to their forehead with one hand, while attempting to draw what they think your baby will look like with the other hand. The mom-to- be selects the portrait she likes best and announce the winner.
  6. Guess the Size of Mom’s Waist: Guests cut a string to the length of what they think is the circumference of mom-to- be’s belly. The person with the correct circumference size wins.
  7. Baby Relay: 8 contestants 1) Blow up a balloon, 2) Tuck the balloon under their shirt or hold it their arms, 3) With ping pong ball between their knees, they must run to a container and drop the ball, 4) Take their balloon and diaper it with a cloth and pin, 5) Deliver their baby to the mom-to- be. The person with the fastest time wins.
  8. Tie, Shimmy, Deliver: 5-10 male contestants 1) Blow up a balloon and stuff it under their shirt. 2) While sitting in a chair, they will race to see who can tie their shoes fastest (without popping their balloons). 3) After successfully tying both shoes, contestants must shimmy their balloon down/out of their shirt. 4) From there they must run the baby over to mom-to- be. 5) Mom-to- be will give a bottle of juice or water to each contestant who reaches her and they must chug the entire bottle. The fastest contestant wins.
  9. Pin the Diaper on the Baby: This makes for another great kids game. Like pin the tail on the donkey, the contestant who pins the “poop” closets to the correct pinning location wins. Other variations of this game are pin the mustache on the baby (for a boy), pin the bow on the baby (for a girl), pin the binki on the baby, pin the baby on the mommy, and pin the poop on the diaper.
  10. Baby Dec-a-Bib / Dec-a-Onesie: 5-10 contestants will be given 30 minutes to decorate a white bib or white onesie with fabric markers. The mom-to- be will select the bib or onesie, she likes best.
  11. Baby Bingo: Have bingo cards on the tables, ready for guests upon entry. Guest will fill out their bingo cards with gifts that they think the mom-to- be will receive. When it’s time for mom-to-be to open her gifts, the game has begun. First to get bingo wins.
  12. Diaper Raffle: Guests who bring a pack of diapers are entered into a raffle. The guest with the drawn ticket wins.

March Outfit of the Month – Maternity

Hey Beauties,

Welp… it’s official, I’m now in my third trimester! As of yesterday I’m a whopping 30 weeks pregnant! Where is the time going!? With just 10 weeks to go I’m doing all I can to prepare for baby and to keep my mind at ease and stress free. My baby shower plans are in the works, I’m almost done clearing out my second bedroom to prepare for the nursery, and I’ve signed up for a maternity tour next month, and prenatal classes to start in May! Baby will be in my arms soon enough!

With all that’s going on right now, I did manage to take some time out for myself to get dressed up and feel pretty… which has been a challenge of its own with this pregnancy. Last weekend my husband and I took our maternity/family photoshoot and I absolutely love my look. Once I get those beautiful portraits I will share share share away! For now, here’s a peek at the outfit I chose.

My Look:

DRESS: Motherhood + SHOES: Forever 21

My outfit for this month is this beautiful blue dress with gold studs scattered about. I accessorized with gold jewelry and gold pumps to give it a chic, cohesive, and sophisticated look. Oh, and did you peep my new glasses! Lord knows I was in need of some new glasses. This look was effortless to put together. This dress is so comfy and I love the way it moves. Pretty sure I’ll be wearing this even after having baby, that’s how much I love it! It’s a fun look that I can easily dress up with pumps, or dress down with a cute pair of sandals. These pics just don’t do it justice. I can’t wait for my portraits to come in! Stay tuned for those!

Questions of the Day:

For you mothers to be, are you planning on taking maternity photos? If so, what’s the look you’re going for?

My Top 3 Pregnancy Apps 2017

Hello Beauties,

Being pregnant with my first has my mind centered solely on all things baby. Having phone apps with useful information right at my finger tips is essential to getting me through most days. While I’m full of joy and excitement, I sometimes feel overwhelmed and anxious for the coming months. I have a little less than 3 months to go and there’s much to do. Luckily with the addition of my amazing support system, I have my top 3 pregnancy apps to help keep my nerves at bay, while bringing out feelings of excitement which all expecting mothers should feel.

All of the following pregnancy apps are simple to use and are free for download. They each provide the basic features such as weekly updates on baby’s development, calendars to schedule prenatal appointments and to take note of milestones, diet and exercise trackers, the option to join group chats, kick count trackers, weekly videos, pictures, and diagrams for each stage of your pregnancy, and so on.

Ovia Pregnancy

When I began my journey to become pregnant I started with the Ovia Fertility app, which is primarily for tracking your ovulation. This app was easy to use and was pretty accurate. It was through this app that I learned of the Ovia Pregnancy app, which I’ve used daily throughout my pregnancy.

The Ovia Pregnancy app is the first app I downloaded when I became pregnant. My favorite feature of this app is the “Food Safety Lookup.” I knew of the basic food don’ts like raw meat, caffeine, and alcohol, however there were a few surprises. For example, I didn’t know that deli meat was on the no no list! I love sandwiches! Did you know that chicken caesar salad is also on this list? This is because the dressing is traditionally made with raw eggs! Sheesh! Of course when I found out I couldn’t have some of my favorite foods, I suddenly began craving them. The thought of being told I can’t have them only made me want them more!

I’ve had great success with the first two Ovia apps. I know that once I have my little guy, there won’t be any hesitation in adding Ovia’s third app, Ovia Parenting. This app is a lot like its pregnancy app, only you’ll receive weekly updates of your new born’s development, record his/her milestones, and more.

Ovia Pregnancy – App Highlights

The Bump

During my wedding engagement I was all about The Knot. So naturally I had to give The Bump a shot. I love this app for all of its basic features, but I also really love their website which has even more articles to read and a Q and A section for subscribers to write directly to the editors.

My favorite app feature is the option to view and share all of my registries from my favorite retailers in one place. I’m finalizing my registries this week and I’m hoping to get it out to everyone soon. I’ve been asked for my registry information several times already, which is actually pretty cool. I’m happy that people are ready to spoil my baby just as much as I am!

The Bump app is also a great tool for mothers with toddlers. It offers the same great quality videos and articles on raising a toddler. I’m sure that the next logical step for me will be to sign up for The Nest, so that I can continue to shape my home and overall lifestyle into what I always strive for it to be… Awesome!

Baby Center

My favorite part about the Baby Center app is the videos of real life labor and delivery stories. Kind of like the old TLC shows “A Baby Story” and “Bringing Home Baby.” I think these videos might be actual footage of those old episodes, but I’m not entirely sure. Granted, sometimes these videos freak me out! Watching women in pain, afraid, and stressed out during labor and delivery definitely pulls at my heart strings. It makes me realize that it won’t be long before I’m in that same boat!

Even with that being said, these videos encourage me to put serious thought into my own birth plan. I’m reminded of the importance in being as mentally and physically prepared as possible. I find the Baby Center app to be very educational (as are the other two), and it gives a realistic view of labor and delivery through it’s uncensored videos.

Baby Center – App Highlights

I hope this post helps out any expecting mom who has some reservations on pregnancy apps. They are informative, but are in no way a replacement to receiving actual medical advice and instruction from your doctor. Have fun with these apps! If anything, I’m sure you’d at least enjoy the weekly updates on what fruit matches your baby’s size.

Question of the Day:

What are your favorite fertility, pregnancy, and parenting apps?

9 Spring Inspired Date Ideas

Hello Beauties,

We’re now less than two weeks away from the beginning of Spring, how exciting?! I’m definitely looking forward to clearer skies and blossoming flowers.

This year, Spring is bringing on a whole new meaning for me… It means that the baby will soon be here! With just 13 more weeks to go, I’m expecting a lot more baby shopping, some baby shower fun, and will hopefully finalize all of my last minute nesting touches over the coming season. With all of that on my plate, I can’t forget about my hubs. Now’s the time to start thinking about some fun date ideas that we can squeeze in before baby’s arrival. I literally just realized that the next few months will be the last that Jan and I will EVER have together with just us two! #reality

Here are some of my favorite Spring inspired date ideas. Of course not all of these are pregnancy safe, lol, so I personally will have to wait for when I’m pregnant free again for some of these fun activities.

Lets Get Physical

  • Biking: – Take a tandem bike ride together. You’ll learn to coordinate together and it’s a good workout where you have no choice but to keep up with one another.
  • Visit the Orchard: Get your hands dirty with your love with some fruit picking. I love fresh fruit and what better way to stock up on them than to actually go out pick them yourself!?
  • Stroll Around the Botanical Garden: This is also a great time for a photo op, which I’m always down for. So put on your favorite spring dress and take a stroll in the nearest Butterfly or Botanical Garden. It’s fun, relaxing, and you can get a good walk in while you enjoy each others time.

Lets Eat

  • Picnic: I just love a good picnic. Jan and I do this every spring. All you need is a blanket, some light snacks, booze if you can get away with it, and each other. It’s fun and can actually be very relaxing. Sometimes Jan and I will go a good minute without talking. We’re just in each others arms, staring at the clouds and enjoying each other’s company.
  • Outdoor Dining: If a picnic is not your thing, dinning outdoors for breakfast, brunch, or lunch, could be a great option. Now I don’t mean just at any ol’ restaurant. Don’t go have a meal outside of a McDonalds and call it a day. Choose some place nice where there is an actual wait staff catering to you. It’s a day date! Make it romantic.

Adventure Time

  • Wine + Ride: I looove Napa. For the most part all there is to do is eat and drink wine, but I love both of those things! Lol! One thing that I haven’t tried in Napa yet, but really reeeeally want to is to climb aboard the wine train to visit local wineries, castles, etc. I know a few people who have tried it and they’ve given me great reviews. I will definitely have to knock this off of my bucket list when baby’s out so mommy and daddy can escape for some adult time.
  • Tour a Nearby Town / The Big City: I enjoy visiting the big city just as much as anybody else, but I typically like to know exactly where I’m going and what I’ll be doing there. I’m not a fan of crowds, so I need some sort of game plan ahead of time. One thing I’d love to do is act as a true tourist and take a real tour of the big city. That way I can get a sense of all that SF has to offer, and if I’m lucky I’ll most likely get to see a few new places to try out for more date ideas.

Big Events

  • Local Festival / Carnival: One thing that I love about Jan and our relationship is that we’ve always acted like such big kids. So going to a carnival, eating junk food, playing games, and riding the not so scary rides are right up our alley. Maybe we can sneak in one last trip to the carnival with just us two before we have a kid taking up all of our time on the tea cup ride. Could be a romanic escape to just make you feel young again… I say this as if I’m old as dust… Lol.
  • Farmers Market – Flea Market: If picking your own fruit on a date isn’t your idea of romance, and if supplying your own food for a picnic isn’t ideal, there’s always the farmers market. Most farmers market’s have more than just local farmers, but also food vendors serving up something nice and hot to eat. I love any farmers market that has a place in the grass to sit, eat, listen to music, etc. It’s a great excuse to get outside. There’s also flea markets to consider if your up for bargaining for some great deals.

February Outfit of the Month – Maternity

Hey Beauties,

Who says pregnant women can’t dress up to feel good!? No lie, as exhausting as pregnancy may be at times, it’s still worth putting yourself together when you do have the energy. I believe dressing up can drastically impact our moods and can be a bit uplifting. I find this to be especially important for pregnant women who are looking to feel attractive… baby bump and all.

Now that I’m in my second trimester I have “most” of my energy back. My bump hasn’t quite reached the full grown belly stage yet, but I already find myself just wanting to dress comfy. I don’t like my clothes to hug me anywhere on my body, I need wiggle room to breath, and most importantly I need plenty of space to grow. I don’t plan on purchasing a lot of maternity clothes because after all, being pregnant is only temporary… I’m just about 3 months away from popping!

Pregnant or not, we should all feel equally as good on the outside as we do on the inside. If you aren’t feeling good in either department, try working on one trait first. Maybe my post on finding your word for the year can help you with your internal makeover, and this one will inspire you to put a little more effort into your exterior. I strongly believe that if you feel good you’ll want to look good, and if you look good you’ll start to feel good. Even if you have no place to be, take some time for you. Play dress up in your closet by mixing and matching combinations that you’ve never tried before. Try a new hairstyle or makeup technique. Your body is your canvas, and you create the masterpiece.

My Look:

My outfit for this month is an all black causal attire. It requires little to no effort to put something this basic together, which is a definite plus for mommy’s to be. It’s comfy in that I can breath, thanks to the loose blouse and stretchiness of the leggings. It’s fun in that… well… I can breath! Hahah! Being able to move comfortably makes being my silly self that much easier.

TOP: Old Navy Maternity + BOTTOMS: Basic Black Leggings You Can Get From Anywhere + SHOES: Dress Barn

Questions of the Day:

What are your thoughts on an all black ensemble? What role does comfort play in fashion? How much does your look impact your mood?

My First Pregnancy: The Gender Reveal

Hello Beauties,

Last Friday was the most amazing day of 2017 thus far. Not only did it mark my 12th year couple anniversary with Jan, but it was also the release date of Jan’s album “With You.” For more information on my hubby’s album and more you can visit his site here. These two milestones were huge for us, but the one that brought the most excitement was our baby gender reveal celebration, which is what today’s post is all about. As any mom would agree, I’m just happy knowing that my baby is growing strong and healthy. But like everyone else… I’m just as excited to know what’s baking in the oven!

The Big Reveal

Pregnancy Gender Reveal

We first shared the news with a mini gender reveal party with our parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Before revealing the news we had everyone pick between stashes or lashes, and we went through a series of wives tales to try to convince people to switch teams. Of course everyone held their ground… not one person budged! Funny enough, more than half the party was on team lashes! So you can only imagine all of the surprised faces once the news revealed otherwise. In the end everyone is still over the moon excited. As my sister in law put it, “a baby’s a baby, no matter the gender.” We’re all happy to have a new member of the family and are anxiously awaiting the day we get to meet my little boy.

That same night Jan posted the below video to Facebook to share with the rest of our family and friends. Since Jan is really the creative one in our relationship I’m sure no one would believe that I came up with this cool idea! I really did ya’ll!! The same yellow rose I shared on my Instagram the night before is the same rose we used in this video. I figured how simple and cute would it be if the yellow rose turned blue! All my brain power right there, but all Jan’s doing on the delivery. Hahah. #teamwork

Why Find Out the Gender?

Because why not!? I was already antsy waiting for the 20th week to roll around… I don’t think I would’ve been able to wait the entire 40 weeks to be surprised. I like that I now have a better understanding of what to expect before my baby arrives. So I have time to plan a more gender specific wardrobe, nursery, etc. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fine to go with neutral in the beginning, and I’m sure it would pose a fun creative challenge. I personally prefer having the option to be more gender specific because it provides you with more options. At least with knowing the gender you can still incorporate neutrals while having a pop of gender specific items around to make it seem more complete and intentional.

Questions of the Day?

For you mothers out there, did you find out the gender of your baby? If not, why not and how surprised were you on the day of delivery? If you’re like me and you did find out, how did you reveal the news to your loved ones?

xoxo Jamela

My One Word Resolution for 2017: Manifest

Hello Beauties,

We’ve now reached the 2nd week of February, which is typically the time where most new years resolutions take a turn for the worst. I mean really… just 1 month after the countdown, and most of us have already resorted back to our old ways without a second thought.

Well… I’m here to say don’t give up! If you’ve set a goal or two for this year don’t be another failing statistic! If you already caved, or if you never set a goal for the new year to begin with, no worries. It’s not to late to turn things around. I recently learned of an easier approach to achieving great things in just one year. All it takes is one word. You simply choose a single word to guide you towards a happy and more fulfilling year.

The Purpose of Finding Your Word:

In comparison to setting resolutions, finding one word to live by is an entirely different and more manageable approach to achieving greatness. Often times we set too many goals, or our goals aren’t well thought out. This makes it a hell of a lot easier to just give up and go back to our old habits. Your one word should sum up your prime focus for the next 365 days, and should serve as a reminder or a promise to yourself.

This is not a new strategy. People have been doing this for years and have achieved great results. After reading about the process and a few great testimonies, I was inspired to find my own word for 2017. I would’ve loved to kick off the year with something like this, but it’s still early enough in the year to inspire and be inspired. Plus, with February being the time where most resolutions fail, this post could be arriving just in time for some of you!

My Word:

So right to it, I find that the perfect word for me is “Manifest.” Over the years I’ve come to believe that we manifest every experience, personal encounter, and good or bad result all on our own. How we act, how we perceive things, and how we portray ourselves is all manifested into our real lives simply through the power of our own thoughts. Basically how we feel on the inside is how we present ourselves on the outside. If you’re unclear on what I’m getting at, allow me to further explain.

The word manifest can be defined a few different ways. The version that I’m referring to implies that what we “intend,” we bring into actual existence. Not just the tangible, but the intangible as well. In other words, what we think about, we bring about. That goes for our successes, failures, experiences, and so on. For example, if you’re in a toxic relationship, hate your job, or whatever the case may be, you have to take responsibility by acknowledging that you somehow someway welcomed this into your life. Similarly, if you’re over the moon in love, have the career you’ve always dreamed of and so forth, that’s all a result of what you intended into your life. We intentionally put ourselves in these scenarios. BUT remember, we can just as easily get ourselves out by simply changing our mind, desire, and focus.

I’ve manifested A LOT in my life. Both good and bad. Every year I set big goals for myself, and this year is no different in that sense. Only now, if I ever fall off track I’ll have my word to remind me of all of the things I want to bring into my life this year. I’m using this process as a secondary tool to the goals/resolutions I’ve already set for this year. You can too! Just give it a try!

Questions of the Day:

What is your word for 2017? What are your intentions for 2017? Have you used this resolution technique before?

xoxo Jamela

“I manifest the things I want by believing in their existence.”

My First Pregnancy: The Family + Friends Reveal

Hello Beauties,

Last week I shared my initial reaction and how I surprised my husband with our pregnancy news. Today is all about how we revealed our news to our family and friends. Read on and I hope you enjoy.

The Brainstorm + Game Plan

After our first doctor’s visit Jan and I learned that our little baby was growing healthy and strong. Seeing the heartbeat flicker on the screen was priceless, but that’s an entire post for another day. At that moment we decided it would be best to wait until we were officially 12 weeks or more before telling anyone. That is pretty much the general rule of thumb anyway, so we went with it. Luckily for us, we had an upcoming 2 week trip to the Philippines, which really helped us in keeping our secret just a little while longer. On our trip we came up with the idea to surprise our family on Thanksgiving day. Crazy how even on vacation we  were still planning for things to do back home! We were too excited… we had to have a plan that was set in stone. The timing was actually quite perfect with it being around the holiday’s. We began messaging our parents and siblings, and somehow we convinced them to allow us to host Thanksgiving at our home for the first time ever. Our master plan was in full swing.

Revealing to Family – Thanksgiving Day

When the day finally came I was a nervous wreck and almost chickened out of revealing the news. I knew everyone would be happy for us, but the thought of everyone finding out at the same time only made the pregnancy more real. That Thanksgiving, after everyone ate dinner we all sat at the table and conversed over dessert. Then it was time! Jan came up with the “bright idea” to show everyone a video of our “Philippines experience,” or so they thought. The video stared with a few images of Jan and I on the beautiful beach of Boracay, and quickly switched scenes to when I revealed the news to Jan two months earlier. Everyone jumped, screamed, and cried with joy. Some even called it the best Thanksgiving ever! I couldn’t agree more with that statement… It was perfect.

Revealing to Friends – Family Christmas Photo-Opp

We kept it very simple when it came to revealing to our friends. First we announced the news to our church. After services one Sunday, the church was asked if there were any more announcements. Jan jumped out of his seat and ran up to our pastor and his wife on stage and handed them what appeared to be a note. When the pastor opened it to his surprise it was a scroll of sonogram photos. The entire church applauded and congratulated us. I’m sure I was bright red in the face, but it was a wonderful experience. For our closest friends we invited them over to hang out, visited them at their home, or video chatted with them if distance or work posed a challenge. For the remainder of our friends and family we simply posted an image of ourselves on Facebook holding a sonogram photo. We posted this on Christmas day. We received an overwhelming response of love and well wishes for our growing family. I was so happy and I felt like a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders. The world now knows! But there’s one more secret to reveal…

Stay tuned for next weeks post on how we reveal our baby’s gender! Wish us luck. The family finds out the news in just a few days… on mine and Jan’s 12th year couple anniversary to be exact. Told you last week that February is the month of love.

Questions of the Day:

For you mothers out there, how did you reveal your pregnancy news to your family and friends? Were they surprised? Did your reveal go as planned?

xoxo Jamela

Pregnancy Reveal

My First Pregnancy:
The Initial Reaction + Husband Reveal

Happy February Beauties! The month of LOVE has arrived!

In last week’s post “Getting Back that Feeling” I briefly mentioned my big news… If you missed that post, or if you haven’t caught on by the title of this post…  I’M PREGNANT! I’m now 21 weeks and 6 days to be exact, with my first little one. This pregnancy was something that Jan and I had planned and prayed over for a good year. Now look at us… we’re pass the halfway point! Our little bundle of joy is due this coming June and we couldn’t be more excited.

Today I want to share the beginning of my pregnancy story. Starting from the day I took the at home pregnancy test, to the day I revealed the news to Jan.

Home Pregnancy Test Reaction:

One Wednesday evening after a long day of work, I got home and started reviewing my ovulation app and noticed that I had reached the optimal time for testing. A ball of nerves, I began pacing the floor and praying aloud until I had finally convinced myself to take the test. I drank a ton of water and sat for a little bit with legs that wouldn’t stop quivering. Finally it was go time!

I almost didn’t want to look at the results. I wanted this pregnancy so bad, but I didn’t want to be disappointed with yet another negative result. After a few deep breaths, I peeked at the test out of the corner of my eye, and I could see that there was more to the screen than a one worded result… which only meant one thing. It had to be positive! I picked up the test and to my surprise the result stated PREGNANT 2-3 (weeks).  With eyes wide open like a deer in the headlights, I jumped up and down in excitement with tears in my eyes.

Again, I began pacing the floor. Only this time I was wondering how I would break the news to Jan. I finally decided to race to the closest store to look for a cute onesie, but of course I didn’t see anything that I liked. Not to mention, Jan was going to be off work any minute. So instead of rushing the experience, I decided to hold off for a couple of days. Two long days of holding a secret this big from my husband… what a daunting tasks!

Revealing to the Husband:

Finally it was Friday! I got off work early and drove straight to Babies “R” Us where I began shopping around for cute baby gear. My purchase included a few onesies, a pair of baby booties, and a congratulatory card. I even took it a step further and stopped by the grocery store to pick up our favorite Ben and Jerry’s ice cream to celebrate after the reveal. Since booze was no longer an option, ice cream would have to do. I went home and Google image searched cute baby cartoon animals to print and cut out. I then stuck those print outs along with the items I purchased on a large picture frame and hung it above our fire place. For my final touch, I did a music search on YouTube to play baby lullabies on the TV as background noise for the big reveal. Once everything was complete, I picked Jan up from work for the surprise of his life… and of course I had my camera in hand to capture it all.

I followed close behind Jan (camera rolling), and the first thing he sees is an image of a baby on our TV screen. He asked “Why are you listening to lullabies?” All I could do was laugh and think, “How could you not see the display above the fire place!?” Finally he turns his head and sees the display of onesies on the wall. He screams “What’s that!?” Turns to me and asks, “You’re pregnant!?” Cue the waterworks, the secret was out! We both embraced each other with tears of joy rolling down our faces. For a good hour we sat and talked about how surprised we both were with the news. Because even though we had been trying, I didn’t show any signs of being pregnant. We talked, laughed, and dreamed together for a while more. It was one of the most amazing feelings. One of the most heartfelt experiences of our relationship.

Since then it’s been quite the journey and I know there is so much more in store for the remainder of my pregnancy and beyond. I will definitely be sharing my pregnancy experience over the coming months. So please stay tuned.

Questions of the Day:

For you mothers out there how did you reveal your pregnancy news to your partner? Was he genuinely surprised? Did your reveal go as planned?

Getting Back That Feeling?

Hello Beauties!

Welcome back, I’ve missed you! Today’s post is the first of many for this new year, and I couldn’t have chosen a better day than my birthday to kick things off! Yep that’s right, today I turn the big TWO-NINE! This is my last year in the roaring 20s, so I have to make it count… just like every year, only a tad bit more. Look out 2017 here I come!

Today’s post “Getting Back that Feeling?” was inspired after browsing through some pics of myself from last year. I began to think back to where I was at that time in my life, in comparison to where I am now just one year later.

Early 2016

Looking at pictures from a year ago, I see myself and I look seemingly happy. But for what? Thinking back to that time, I was about 6 months into my blogging career, and was struggling to find enough time to invest in it. I was going thru a major change with my day job that left me feeling a bit stressed and unsettled. I was trying to make certain moves in my life, but with every step forward, I was forced to take two steps back. But still… through these photos I smile, and I appear to be very happy.

Early 2017

Fast forward to today… I’ve become a bit of a pro at my new role, though it still isn’t my career of choice. I’m going on a year and a half of blogging, and though I set some pretty good goals for it’s growth and success last year, I wasn’t able to achieve them all. But I look at photos I’ve taken recently, and I still smile that same beautiful smile.

The Comparison

Last year I experienced some major lows. Lows that I thought would keep me in a funk for much longer than they did. But after every negative outcome, every heartbreak, every feeling of defeat and betrayal, I was gifted with a new blessing that would pull me back together. When I lost friendships, I gained new ones. When I began to lose my faith, I gained it back through the power of prayer and church community. When my husband and I began to grow restless after months and months of trying to build our family, our prayer was answered, and we are now expecting our first baby… Extra excited about that last bit!

I guess what I’m trying to say is, that no matter how low your lows are, pay close attention to the blessings that follow. When I first saw those pictures of myself a year ago I said “I’ve got to get back that feeling.” Then I realized, I never lost that feeling. I was going through things then and I don’t expect this new year to be any different in that regard. There will always be new challenges, and there will always be something or someone trying to discombobulate you. Ultimately, it’s up to us to see life for the blessing that it is. Message of the day beauties, keep your heads held high, and press forward. We got this!
